As we celebrated the winter solstice, redefining our boundaries, deepening our faith with the earth, enhancing the frequency of our lives, we are tuned in with the Earth’s wisdom. Standing in the dark, we call in our inner light to guid us, through the winter. December, can be a profound way to tune into the magic and beauty of the season. A significant time of ritual, reflection, and renewal, helping us to cultivate a deeper connection to nature and family and all the things that matter most to us. Winter Solstice celebrates the start of the solar year the rebirth of the Sun. In Pagan Scandinavia, the winter solstice was known as Yule, meaning the wheel of life. Fires were lit to symbolize the heat, and life-giving properties of the returning sun. A piece of a oak log was kept as both a token of good luck and as kindling for the following year’s log. This return of light was a reason to celebrate nature’s cycle. The journey of the sun through the sky can be marked at four distinct points: the spring equinox, summer solstice, autumn equinox, and winter solstice, each at equidistant points of the year forming the symbol of the cross within the “wheel of the year” with the sun at the center. These points mark the movements of the earth around the sun and the sun’s varying influence over light and darkness, day and night, and the passage of the seasons, but they also hold a greater spiritual significance. The annual journey of the sun is symbolic of the journey to enlightenment. The sun that exists in the physical world as the fire we see in the sky also exists in the higher dimensions as a spiritual fire and the spiritual source of all creation.

“Sometimes, when a bird cries out,
Or the wind sweeps through a tree,
Or a dog howls in a far-off farm,
I hold still and listen a long time.
My world turns and goes back to a place
Where, a thousand forgotten years ago,
The bird and the blowing wind
Were like me, and were my brothers.
My soul turns into a tree,
And an animal, and a cloud bank. Then changed and odd it comes home
And asks me questions. What should I reply?”
